Empower

For people living with domestic abuse, the home that should be a place of safety becomes a place of fear.

Our Empower team provides tailored practical and emotional support to women in the community; showing them they are not alone.

Domestic abuse, or domestic violence, is any incident of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of their gender or sexuality.

Domestic abuse takes many forms, including, but not limited to, psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional abuse. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, please visit our Get Help page.

A third of all women facing homelessness have experienced domestic abuse
or sexual violence

Our one-to-one and peer support groups allow people a safe space to open up and find their voice again.

We restore people’s confidence through helping them access legal advice and make a safety plan.

We equip people to make safe choices and understand what a healthy relationship looks like.

As I went to leave he tripped me up and tried to suffocate me … I was put in touch with Empower. I had one-to-one sessions with Helen and she was amazing. She made me see that this behaviour was not love and not normal. I have a lovely partner now and Helen reminds me that that’s the way it’s meant to be.
